Zimmer Tool Changer FAQs
A Zimmer tool changer allows tools to be changed automatically or manually on robots, portals, or automated systems. It consists of two main components: a stationary part that is permanently attached to the robot or portal and a loose part that is attached to the tool. This allows different tools to be changed safely while increasing flexibility and efficiency in automated production processes.
Zimmer Group offers several types of tool changers for different automation requirements, including manual HWR and HWR2000 Series, pneumatic WPR5000 and WWR1000 Series, automatic FWR Series, and magnetic WMR2000 Series tool changers.
Zimmer's pneumatic tool changers are designed with safety in mind. The combination of a spring accumulator and mechanical self-locking helps maintain a secure hold during a pressure drop. The WPR5000 Series specifically uses a spring-loaded piston and self-locking mechanism and meets the requirements of Performance Level d, Control Category 3. Learn more about the Zimmer WPR5000.
Zimmer tool changers can be configured with standardized energy elements to transfer pneumatics and vacuum, electrical signals and power, hydraulics and other fluids, and communication such as IO-Link and bus systems. Additional customized solutions are also available depending on the application.
Zimmer tool changers are designed for direct mounting using a standardized robot flange in accordance with EN ISO 9409-1. Zimmer's flat component design also helps minimize additional height and torque load on the robot.
The Zimmer WPR5000 Series is designed for demanding automated applications and features a compact, flat design, high repeat accuracy, mechanical self-locking, and configurable energy transmission. Zimmer states that the series can accommodate heavy tools weighing up to 500 kg or more, depending on the selected model and application. The WPR5000 also offers up to 5 million maintenance-free cycles and IP54 protection.
